My Approach: Following your Child’s Lead & Building Connections
In my 10 years of experience, I have learned that planning a table top activity or worksheet for your child will not result in meaningful, lasting progress. My approach takes into account your child’s unique interests which could be as simple as waving a string, playing in water, or watching a video. Once I find what interests them, I find that communication comes naturally - whether that is through words, behaviors, or something else.
Once I have learned to join with your child on their interests, the parent and I work together to define goals for each session. During the session we partner as a team so that the caregiver can learn the strategies to carry out in between sessions.
